With a well-trained and qualified technical team that handles maintenance and repair assignments for technical systems throughout Germany, this general contractor is a leader in facility management and workplace experience in the field of building and facility maintenance. The challenge lies in optimally allocating resources to both planned and last-minute assignments, while taking into account various constraints such as qualifications and availability. Resource planning should be automated as much as possible, with only minimal manual intervention.
Using an agile development approach, an efficient integration solution was created to process any number of IDocs in Salesforce 360 on a daily basis using SAP Cloud Integration. In addition to developing the integration solution, CAS AG handled test management, process documentation, and support throughout all phases of the project.
In detail:
Using the Scrum methodology for agile development, a series of iFlows was created that are connected to the ProcessDirect and JMS channels. This makes it possible to process any number of IDocs daily using SAP Cloud Integration and to consolidate mapped data into bulk uploads. One major advantage is that it protects Salesforce from overload, which in turn helps prevent it from crashing. The integration architecture supports three separate Salesforce systems, each of which requires its own mappings and login credentials.
In addition to the development work itself, CAS AG also took on the management of the development and user acceptance tests, as well as the documentation of the complex process. In addition, we carried out the production rollout with Hypercare, implemented several adjustments and change requests, and provided long-term support throughout all phases—from development through production. In addition, new developers and users were onboarded for the integration.
The implementation of the software solution and the use of the central integration platform have significantly improved resource planning capabilities. This process is now partially automated, with scheduling suggestions generated for the respective scheduler based on upcoming tasks and available employees, taking into account location, qualifications, and absences. Full automation of resource planning is planned for the next phase of the project. The integration platform plays a key role in the success of the operational planning implementation project by providing data continuously and in a timely manner, which leads to a significant improvement in process quality.

After procuring a suitable software product for automated resource planning, an implementation project was launched. The service group’s central integration platform is used to integrate the necessary data from heterogeneous source systems. The high stability and robustness of this platform were key factors in the project’s success, as they enabled both synchronous and batch-based processes for the planning data. In addition, monitoring, alerting, and error handling are included “out of the box.”
In detail:
As part of an analysis and selection process, the facility management expert chose a software solution for automated scheduling. To do this, it is necessary to integrate various data from different source systems—including activity data and personnel data—in order to carry out resource planning. This includes not only the actual operational data, such as task descriptions and locations, but also personal information such as absences and qualifications. Given the heterogeneity of the data sources, the project team decided to use the existing central integration platform—which ensures structured access to the necessary data.
In recent years, the consultants at CAS AG have played a key role in helping to build this central integration platform. The platform consists of various IBM products, such as IBM Integration Bus, IBM MQ, and IBM API Connect; in addition, products such as GitLab are used to manage and support the development process. The high stability and robustness of this integration platform were key factors in the project’s success: Both synchronous communication channels were implemented and batch-based processes were defined to regularly update the planning data. In addition, monitoring, alerting, and error-handling capabilities are integrated “out-of-the-box.”
