Our Carbon Footprints
CAS AG has been reporting its greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol since 2021. In 2022, the carbon footprint assessment was expanded to include all relevant Scope 3 emissions. In accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, all greenhouse gases were taken into account, and allCO2 emission figures are always presented asCO2 equivalents(CO2e).

The overall result of our current carbon footprint assessment from 2023
In 2022, we prepared our carbon footprint report for 2021 for the first time. Since then, we have been committed to
to track our greenhouse gas emissions on an annual basis. Our overall results for 2022 are as follows:

Climate Change Strategy
CAS AG considers it its responsibility to reduce the emissions it causes directly and indirectly, thereby contributing to the achievement of the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement. We have set our greenhouse gas reduction targets in accordance with the guidelines of the Science Based Targets Initiative. Our long-term net-zero goal is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 95% for Scope 1 and 2 and by 90% for Scope 3 by 2040, relative to the base year of 2022. In the short term, we aim to achieve a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 40% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030.
Since sustainability has been a guiding principle for CAS AG from the very beginning, measures to reduce emissions have been in place for many years. As a result, an explicit strategic breakdown of the measures was not carried out until many of them had already been implemented operationally. CAS AG’s climate protection strategy provides an overview of our initiatives.

Climate Change Strategy
In parallel with the ongoing implementation of our reduction measures, we have been offsetting our remaining greenhouse gas emissions since 2021 through investments in Gold Standard-certified climate protection projects (Gold Standard for the Global Goals, GS4GG).
For us, actually preventing emissions is a clear priority: Our stated goal is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2040 through our planned reduction measures. Offsetting emissions through climate protection projects is a complementary measure for the emissions we are not yet able to avoid through other means—but it is not a substitute for reduction.
