Hoberg & Driesch is one of Europe’s leading steel pipe wholesalers. In a massive warehouse covering more than 100,000 square meters, the company stocks 40,000 metric tons of steel pipes—13,000 different items—for its customers.
Some major customers place orders with Hoberg & Driesch via an EDI connection. However, many regional steel distributors do not have the necessary technology in-house. Until now, you had to pick up the phone or send an email to ask whether the merchandise was in stock, what the price was, and how quickly the wholesaler could deliver it.
There’s now a much more elegant way to do this: Working with CAS AG, Hoberg & Driesch was able to create an online portal in just three months where customers can view the wholesaler’s current inventory, add products to a shopping cart, and automatically request a quote. For both customers who are not connected via EDI and for Hoberg & Driesch, the portal represents a significant increase in efficiency. Selecting products is extremely user-friendly thanks to a flexible filter with up to six criteria. Customers can mark products that are consistently relevant to them as favorites and view their order history.
From a technological standpoint, the portal was implemented using CAS AG’s Realtime DataHub solution (CAS RDH), which also enabled a simple and cost-effective connection to the wholesaler’s SAP ERP system for synchronizing master data and transaction data. Hoberg & Driesch had taken a look at the solution being used by Landgard, a CAS AG client, and was quickly convinced: The leading German marketer of horticultural products had recently created a portal for customers and growers using CAS RDH and is extremely satisfied.
The manager at the steel pipe wholesaler also praises the solution and the collaboration with CAS AG:
The authorized signatory of the steel wholesaler is very pleased that they managed to get everything up and running in the impressive timeframe of three months.
Already today, not only numerous customers but also Hoberg & Driesch’s international branches are using the portal. In the future, it is set to be significantly expanded in collaboration with CAS AG. The wholesaler plans to use the solution to automate pricing based on customer-specific agreements as well. Based on this, quotes in SAP will be generated automatically from portal inquiries in the future. Similarly, customers will receive updates via the portal regarding shipping and delivery status, as well as information—including product certificates—in PDF format.
