Modern, efficient, customer-focused: DOUGLAS and CAS AG are redesigning store processes
By successfully consolidating its logistics processes across all sales channels into a new, state-of-the-art central warehouse in Hamm, DOUGLAS has positioned itself for the future. The transition to the new logic of centralized goods flow also brought about significant changes and a desire for innovation in the retail company’s store processes. In mapping the new store processes within DOUGLAS’s SAP system environment, the specialists at CAS AG provided essential support and modernized the store processes at DOUGLAS.
Transition to the New Logic of the Centralized Flow of Goods
“With the CAS AG team, we always have solution-oriented, highly skilled professionals on board with whom we can collaboratively develop solutions in an agile manner and to a high standard,” says Christian Saalborn, an SAP in-house consultant at the DOUGLAS Group responsible for software development for store merchandise management, praising the team of consultants: “We can always count on CAS AG.”
With the expertise of CAS AG’s consultants, Europe’s leading beauty retailer has successfully implemented its new store processes—as part of its new “One Warehouse, All Channels” (OWAC) central warehouse strategy—on schedule and fully integrated with SAP technology. SAP Fiori apps—which CAS AG developed for the retail company—play a key role in enabling store access to the merchandise management system.
The transition of store processes to shipments from a new central warehouse, which began in 2022, focused on goods receipt at the retail locations. With its new app for employees to process incoming goods, CAS AG has developed an innovative, future-proof solution. It enables user-friendly scanning of incoming goods as well as full verification with item-by-item counting in the event of suspected irregularities, without having to leave the SAP environment or the unified representation of inventory in SAP Retail. This solution ensures that real-time information is available at all times in the central inventory management system, which is used, among other things, for backorders and omnichannel processes.
CAS AG also provided DOUGLAS with efficient support in the rollout of new mobile devices for employees by developing generic Android apps. In 2023, DOUGLAS introduced Samsung smartphones as new mobile data-collection devices that even allow the beauty retailer to process payments on the go. Using an SAP Fiori app developed in collaboration with CAS AG, employees can now also order fragrance samples from the central warehouse—samples that were previously shipped directly to the stores by the supplier. Last but not least, CAS AG also provided DOUGLAS with significant support in implementing the new returns process—which was introduced with the switch to fulfillment from the central warehouse—within the stores’ systems.
DOUGLAS has been working successfully with CAS AG for nine years now. At the time the project began, the two companies were among the pioneers in mapping store processes in SAP Fiori apps, and they continue to consistently drive innovative ideas in store processes. Over the years, DOUGLAS has worked with CAS AG to develop and design more than 90 SAP Fiori apps, optimizing them through continuous innovation and refining them through process-driven approaches.
By switching to a central warehouse for supplying its stores, DOUGLAS was able to achieve significant efficiency gains. The fact that the necessary changes to the store systems were implemented on time and to a high standard is also thanks to the consultants at CAS AG, who will continue to support DOUGLAS in the future as it effectively implements new innovations in the world of SAP technology.
